Smart Thermostat Rebates

Is a Smart Thermostat a good buy for your home?

If you have been on the fence about a Smart Thermostat, or are wondering if they are even right for you this might be the time to consider making the switch. I live in Utah and am talking about current rebates available for two of the most popular Smart Thermostats: Nest and Ecobee 3. However, information on rebates are easily available for nearly any location.

What is a smart thermostat and why would you want one?

A Smart Thermostat is a home thermostat that essentially learns your behavior and preferences over time. While it is true you can program your traditional thermostat manually there is never any recognition of your preferences and you have to stay on top of adjustments yourself. Most Smart Thermostat units learn your patterns and preferences over time, saving you the trouble...and hopefully the money.

An additional benefit to a Smart Thermostat is the ability to control your home's temperature remotely from a phone, tablet, or laptop. Not only does this enhance your control over your homes environment it can also alert you to a potential hazard if your home temperature becomes dangerously low or high while away on vacation or just out of the house.

One question many people may have is whether a Smart Thermostat like a Nest or Ecobee 3 (two units Questar is currently offering a $100 rebate on) will even work with your current home heating system. Thankfully you can check on the thermostat's website or contact the company directly to ensure compatibility. In general, most units are compatible.

What is the cost?

Currently the both the Nest and the Ecobee 3 can be found at most retailers for $249. Couple that with a $100 rebate currently being offered through Questar you can easily install either one of these in your home for around $149.

Until the next time...
